Review: Two Door Cinema Club – Sleep Alone

If you weren’t aware, there is a new Two Door Cinema Club song. It’s called ‘Sleep Alone’ and it follows the excellent run of singles pulled from their 2010 debut, Tourist History. Like those songs, it ticks all the right boxes: four on the floor disco drums, staccato guitar and an obvious pop sensibility. Unfortunately, this time that formula comes up short. ‘Sleep Alone’ just doesn’t compare to the likes of ‘I Can Talk’ or ‘What You Know. For one, the chorus is a let down and – except for the euphoric nod to Arcade Fire towards the end – it lacks the sense of fun and excitement prior singles had in spades. Still, it’s by no means a bad song. But that’s hardly the greatest praise, is it?
