Review: The xx – Chained

There are some bands you can just rely on. If their short career is anything to go by, The xx is one of them. Last month they gave us ‘Angels’, the first cut from their upcoming full length, Coexist. And now only a few weeks later, we have ‘Chained’. As you may have guessed from our tone so far, it’s another winner. The early morning whispers Oliver Sim and Romy Madley-Croft are perfectly melded to a gentle bassline and drum pattern. Together they ask: “We used to be closer than this, is it something you miss?” ‘Chained’ is another haunting glimpse of arguably the most anticipated release of the year.

Coexist is out September 10.

Are you excited for Coexist or are The xx overhyped and overrated? Leave a comment and let us know.
